Are You Missing Out on One of the Easiest Ways to Win New Customers?

When was the last time you asked a happy customer to recommend your business on Facebook?
If you’re like many small business owners, the answer is probably “not very often.”
It’s understandable. Asking for recommendations can feel a little awkward. You don’t want to seem pushy, and when you’re busy running your business, it’s easy to move straight on to the next customer.
But here’s the thing…
People ask for recommendations on Facebook every single day.
Whether it’s in local community groups, expat groups or town pages, you’ll regularly see posts asking for a reliable plumber, cleaner, gardener, dog groomer, electrician, painter or accountant.
And who gets recommended?
Usually, it’s the businesses that people remember because they’ve delivered a great service and left a lasting impression.
A Facebook Recommendation is more than just a few kind words. It’s someone publicly saying, “I trusted this business, and I’d happily recommend them to someone else.”
That carries far more weight than any advert ever could.
Most Happy Customers Just Need a Gentle Nudge
One of the biggest misconceptions is that customers will automatically leave a recommendation if they’ve had a good experience.
The reality is, most simply forget.
Life gets busy.
That doesn’t mean they weren’t delighted with your work—it just means leaving a recommendation isn’t at the top of their to-do list.
That’s why it’s perfectly okay to ask.
In fact, many customers are happy to help once they’re reminded.
A simple message like this is often all it takes:
“I’m so pleased you’re happy with everything. If you have a minute, I’d really appreciate it if you could leave a recommendation on my Facebook page. It really helps other people find my business.”
Friendly. Genuine. No pressure.
Make It Easy
The easier you make it, the more likely someone is to do it.
Send them a direct link to your Facebook page by WhatsApp, Messenger or email. Add it to your invoices or email signature. If you meet customers face to face, a QR code on a business card or flyer can work brilliantly.
The fewer clicks involved, the better.
Build a Habit, Not a Campaign
Don’t wait until business goes quiet before asking for recommendations.
Instead, make it part of your normal routine.
Finish a job.
Receive a compliment.
Complete a sale.
That’s your moment.
If you ask consistently, you’ll gradually build a collection of genuine recommendations that show future customers exactly what they can expect.
Remember… People Buy Trust
Before contacting a business, many people do a little research.
They’ll look at your Facebook page.
They’ll read what others have said.
They’re looking for reassurance.
Every recommendation helps build that confidence.
It’s proof that you’re reliable, professional and deliver what you promise.
One Small Ask Can Make a Big Difference
If there’s one thing you take away from this article, let it be this:
Don’t assume your happy customers know how important their recommendation is.
Tell them.
Ask them.
Make it easy.
You might be surprised how many say yes.
One recommendation leads to another, and before long, your reputation starts working for you—even while you’re busy serving your next customer.
After all, the best advert for your business isn’t something you say about yourself.
It’s what your customers say about you.
